Council 100 is always grateful for all the work of the TSA Locals, and their leaders, throughout our great nation, but especially for all that has been accomplished this year. This year, after years of fighting, we finally acquired Title 5-like entitlements, pay equity, and some semblance of full collective bargaining rights, which truly makes this a year, above others, to be thankful. And later this year, or early next year, we will be presenting our new collective bargaining agreement.
Additionally, there was an email announcement, from TSA Administrator Pekoske, that employees would receive an $825 bonus this year after receiving a “meets standards” evaluation rating. Further, there will likely be an annual increase of 5.2%, in 2024, which will be on top of the current wages. Furthermore, this year we have received the most time-off days in the history of our agency with 16 hours given as recent as this Thanksgiving from DHS Secretary Mayorkas.
Finally, in the face of a couple of potential government shutdowns, our Local Unions were able to get on the offensive by interviewing with media news stations, signing petitions and meeting with Congressional representatives, committing to airport rallies, and simply being present in the moment. This forced Congress, which seemed all but certain on moving forward with a shutdown, to reconsider their partisan strategies, by adhering to the will of the people.
While we have always been thankful for the battles and victories we have fought and won, we are especially grateful for the recent ones, which have allowed us to experience first-hand, what we have been fighting for the entire time. Whatever it is that you are thankful for this holiday week and season, let us collectively take this time for much needed respite, good times with friends and family, and a full heart, at least until we must take up our battle gear, once again.
Thankfully Yours,
AFGE Council 100
